MLB Selig Made More Than Johan Last Year!

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is paid commensurate to the highest-paid players in his sport.

According to tax filings obtained by the Sports Business Journal, Selig's compensation climbed past $18 million for the fiscal year ending Oct. 31, 2007. His $18.35 million salary in 2007 represented a 22 percent increase over the previous year, according to the trade journal.

Selig signed an extension that began in January 2008 and lasts until 2012. According to the Journal, that agreement called for more salary increases.

The Journal reported that Selig received $17.47 in base compensation with an additional $461,540 in employee benefit contributions and $422,590 in expense accounts and additional benefits.

In 2007, only four players (Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi) -- all members of the New York Yankees -- made more than Selig.
Holy shit man! I knew he made a lot of money but didn't realize it was this much. He's got a tough job and I sure as hell don't want it but I just didn't expect his salary to be this high.

This was 2007. Last year, Johan's salary went up, and I'm sure Selig didn't make like 23 million.

Johan only made 19? His average salary is 23. Either way, it's still a HUGE salary for Selig.

Wow I thought the Feds got pathetic bang for the buck. Thats Absurd that Selig made that much for the absolutely wretched job he's done in the eyes of most fans.

I'd still take Johan before Selig in a fantasy draft.

I'd take Corey Patterson, Eric Milton, or Carl Pavano over Selig.

I think Patterson is stretching it a little bit...

Baseball is making more money than ever before. Whether or not directly do to (or in spite of in some instances) Selig, he's the head honcho in the business. Too much money? Sure, but not any more insane than players salaries.
