    MLB Tony La Russa retires

Tony La Russa of St. Louis Cardinals says he's retiring - ESPN

Going out on top. The HoF awaits.

Anyone else think this may be an indication that Pujols won't be returning? I hope not. I can't really envision Pujols playing for any other team.

Was just reading about it, he's a had a good run, and you're right going out on top.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him back in baseball in some capactiy after a rest.

Living in St. Louis the mood is that Tony was just tired, the season really drained on him... My guess is that Pujols won't be back... I think Cardinal nation down here knows that and wants to milk the last bit of joy they can out of him.

That being said if STL offers 10/280 he'd sign it in a second... but he wants to beat that A-Rod deal

I don't think this is an indication of Pujols leaving or not. But back to TLR, I really don't blame him for going out on top. He's 70 years old now, has 3 championships and his ticket punched for Cooperstown. TLR had doubts about coming back last year so this is no surprise. What I do wonder about is if Dave Duncan and Mark McGwire are to follow.

If Duncan left, he'd be one of the most sot after coaches on the market.

it now appears Duncan will retire as well due to his wife's health problems. I can see Jose Oquendo taking over.

Now it looks like the opposite:
According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan plans to return in 2012.
Duncan has one year remaining on his contract and a mutual option for 2013. Some speculated that he might walk away following Tony La Russa's retirement and his wife's illness, but that's apparently not the case. However, he has ruled himself out as a managerial candidate.
This is huge if he does return!

Good bye to one of the most self absorbed pieces of ego left in baseball. I wish he'd take Crissy and Duncan with him.

I remember the time when La Russa and Buck Showalter got into it.
