A closer should be like Goose Gossage. Make to where you have to pitch 2 innings to earn a save.

Closers are very important. If they weren't, the Cardinals would be running away with the NL Central. 28 blown saves says a different story.

Well, that's not just from their closer. They just have a bad bullpen in general.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

But no one to close out games hurts worse. A reason this bullpen appears so awful is because there is no stopper at the end. They keeping bringing in setup guys to do it and they fail just like Izzy did. Losing those 28 games hurts a lot!!

their problem is their whole pen stinks this year, as a significant number of their blown saves come in the 7th or 8th innings.

i think its kind of the chicken and the egg thing. is the bullpen bad because of no closer? or is there no closer because the bullpen is really that bad? If they had a guy they could trust to lock down the 7th and 8th innings, they may have been able to use him to close. But they dont even have the 7th/8th inning guys right now either.
