MLB and bad scheduling

Why has the MLB have the season start in cities like Detroit, Chicago, New York and other cities with a open field in a cold climate, although I know the Yankees are special case this year with Yankee Stadium's last season.

You would think MLB would learned it's lesson from last season, right? But I guess that's what you get with ol' Bud Selig still running the show, even I must admit he has done a lot for the game, but continuing a schedule like this?

It does nothing for the players except freeze their asses off and that goes double for the fans who sit out in the cold weather cheering for their team.

Where's the MLB wisdom (if there is any), how come they don't start the season is domes/closed fields or in southern warmer cities like Tampa Bay, LA, Texas etc.

Honestly how can this be so hard to get?

You have to remember, that's the same guy who decided to have an all-star game end in a tie because the game didn't matter. Granted, it's better for baseball that it did happen, but still.

You'd think they'd have some sort of little hole in the ground where there's a bunch of guys who think about stuff like this.

If they always opened the season in warm weather cities, than it wouldn't be fair to the other cities. The Twins opened up at home, the Padres, Mariners, Dodgers, and the Marlins all opened the season at home.

It wouldn't really be fair to the fans in the cold weather city if they had to wait an extra two weeks (at least) before being able to go to a game.

It'd have to be at least two weeks if you're trying to avoid the cold weather in these cities at all costs, and even then you still might fail.

And if baseball started taking that approach, they wouldn't be no different than the NFL, who only like to play the Super Bowl in warm weather cities.

You're right. I posted that last night at work and read it this morning after i got home. It made sense in my head i guess.

I personally think the Red Sox should have opened up in Boston, seeing how they are the defending World Series Champs.

Instead they get what is basiclly a 19-day road trip going from Florida to Japan, Japan to the West Coast for a few exibition games and then re-open the season in Oakland, then to Toronto before coming to Boston.

However, forcing teams with open air stadiums in cold weather cities to open on the road every year isn't fair. They play in the same cold weather in those cities in mid-late September and October if they make the Playoffs. The coldest game in World Series history was played in Cleveland in 1997.

So if your going to argue they shouldn't open the season at home, maybe they shouldn't play games at home in mid-late September and in the Playoffs either.

I think 1 or 2 weeks would be a bit much to make fans wait to see their team play their first home game.

I also think the imbalance that it causes for having to make up the home games later in the season is a bit much.

If it's cold then it's cold, such is nature.
