Thread: The Other Awards

    The Other Awards

One month to go and Peavy has all but locked up the NL CY award with his stats...but what about the other five major awards?

AL MVP: At this point, it's A-Rod's to lose and that means no disrespect to Ordonez, but Rodriguez has been out of this world. He has the best stats, at a middling offensive position (3B), on a good team. I'd be shocked if there were more than a few dissenters in the real vote.

NL MVP: Seems like a toss-up. I wouldn't complain over a number of guys, but I'll give mine to Hanley Ramirez, temporarily. Wright and Reyes are both acceptable, as is Cabrera, Chase Utley, and so on. Too many choices. Someone needs to stand out.

AL RotY: Now this is a competitive field. I have five guys in contention: Pedroia, Matsuzaka, Okajima (BOS), Bannister (KC), and Guthrie (BAL). I think I'll give mine to Matsuzaka for now, but a good September could get any of the five my vote. I just value the extra innings Mats has over the three other pitchers and despite Pedroia's surge, it's not enough yet.

NL Roty: Ryan Braun. Next. Pence is good too, but not as good.

AL CY: Eh, Johan's always a good fallback, even if Bedard's been Johan's equal. Let's say Johan, less engraving.

You forgot to mention Fielder as a canidate for NL MVP. You have to put in the talk at least.

What about manager of the year awards? Who's keeping track on the number of "good" strategic decisions by all 30 managers?

If Pence didn't miss time, he'd still be neck and neck with Braun.
Then again, if Braun started from day one, he'd be top five in homeruns. Game over. I really like both guys though. Neither are conventional in the way they look and play, but both excell at their jobs.

AL MVP, ARod all the way. NL MVP was Soriano till he got hurt. I'm throwing Matt Holliday's name out there for the sake of expanding the field.

Kingdom, How in world could say that Soriano would have been MVP if he had not gotten hurt? IMO, he is not the first name I would think of for MVP. But to each their own, as always, I respect the opinion of my fellow members.

I do agree with you on the NL ROY though!!

    Guthrie is not a rookie.

I'm pretty sure Guthrie is a rookie, I could be wrong based on service time, but he is under the IP threshhold

    What Dry said. haha.

Those would be my picks too!!!

Bedard is having a great year, but C.C. is on a playoff contending team, and IMO, that is difference.

    Re: The Other Awards

Why does it make a difference?

Does C.C.'s team make C.C. a better pitcher than Bedard?

The only award where the team's overall performance should be considered is M.V.P., and that's only because you're trying to determine (by definition of the award) who was most valuable to his team's season.

Kinda hard to be "valuable" to a losing team.
