    Two milestones being approached!

Tonight, two New York players had some big nights.

Tom Glavine of the NY Mets won game #299 in his career in a 6-3 win over the Pirates. And a short time ago, Alex Rodriguez of the NY Yankees hit his 499th HR, and may get another chance to hit in the 9th inning.

Glavine, the quiet, soft-tossing lefty, and A-Rod, the hard-hitting, always controversial third baseman - one thing they have in common is their chase toward history. What do you think is more impressive, Glavine getting 300 or A-Rod hitting 500?

Glavine with his 300th career victory. C'mon, starting pitchers usually don't get to play every games while hitters like A-Rod do. Most batters tend to average 3 or 4 at bats per games given a chance, and there are 162 games in a season. A-Rod has too much at bats than Glavine has pitched total games, I'm sure, by the looks of it.

Well, consider the fact that A-Rod is only 32, nobody's ever hit 500 that quickly.

I, for one, am not surprised that he's the fastest one to hit 500. I mean it's a great feat for him. As a pitcher, wearing your arm out and hoping that your team will be behind your back by giving you some run supports. It's harder to grab a victory every 4 or 5 games than being at bats four times per game daily.

BTW A-Rod just struck out in the 9th so 500 will have to wait another day.

Maybe tomorrow. Jorge Da Le Rosa will be the starting pitcher tomorrow for KC, so anything's possible.

I think a pitching getting 300 Wins is bigger than 500 HR, even at A-Rod's young age.

when A-Rod gets near 600 or 700 it will be huge.

Jorge de la Rosa gave up career HR #400 for A-Rod...now that would be irony.

300 wins is more impressive because you basically have to average 15 wins for 20 years or have 15 20-win seasons back to back to back.....

ARod get to 500 as quickly as he did makes this just as impressive.

thats about the only reason i say push.

300 wins is more impressive to me than 500 HRs, for the already stated reasons.

Take Smoltz for example, he is I'm sure a future Hall of Famer and would be closer to 300 wins if he would of had more run support in his great starts and last year the bullpen blew a lot of leads for the starters.

Easy choice for me. 300 wins is a much harder milestone to achieve in the current ERA, although it is impressive that A-Rod has gotten there so quickly.

    Re: Two milestones being approached!

I think 300 wins is more impressive than 500 HRs, no doubt...the only thing is, A-Rod has gotten to 500 quicker than ANYBODY who's ever played the game. Also, wins are an overrated stat because a pitcher can give up 10 runs in 5 innings and win 11-10, it depends on the team...a HR is a HR. If it goes over the wall, it's over the wall. It depends solely on the hitter's ability, he doesn't have to rely on others to bail him out. Just something to think about.
