For the draft #, be very happy with Eric Sogard Leo and other Padres fans. He could be ready in a couple of seasons to take over 2B with big OBP potential and a decent bat. His tool set isn't the most exciting, but the results show.

Jays took 2B/SS John Tolisano with the 85th pick (High School) and OF Eric Eiland from Lamar HS, Houston with the 88th pick.

Toronto taking more High School players than ever before, 1st OF with Eiland.

the yankees took a 7 foot pitcher yay ! admittedly i dont follow the mlb draft like i do the nfl or nba draft... nowhere near as much, infact. however, the cat redsrbetter had going 2nd in his mock fell to 27th and detroit. is that a shock, is that expected and redsrbetter just overvalued the guy, were their signability issues?

Pure signability, if it was based on talent, Porcello would be ranked 1-2-3 or 4 on nearly anyone's list. He is a huge talent with Mr. Boras on his side that will be demanding anywhere from 8-11 million.

I went to HS with a pitcher who went in the second round (Braves) several years ago and got a $1 million signing bonus. And now he isn't even in the minors any longer. Ouch!

For anyone confused if former big leaguer Joey Hamilton snuck back in via the amateur draft at pick 60....

Comments: Hamilton's pure stuff and ability to pitch are there, and that kept scouts coming all year.
    It must be his doppleganger.

Yeah, I don't really know much about him. He's still just 17 years old I thought he was being projected to go in the top ten..

Big thumbs up to the MLB and ESPN for televising the draft, it turned out much better than I was anticipating and the pacing was spot on. Plus, they had a pretty good crew there for the game (granted it's ESPN, so it wasn't optimal, but it could of been a lot worse with some of the guys they have on payroll.)

Paul Newmann goes to the Devil Rays at 125.

... So that was his plan, "retire" (from acting alone) and go from race cars to the baseball diamond with an additional n on his name. Why that Greek hustler...

How many rounds are there in the draft?

    50 rounds at the most

Teams can cut off at any round they want before the 50 rounds end (say round 30) but if they do their draft ends.

Well at least 60 something rounds, Mike Piazza was drafted in the 61st round by the Dodgers(I believe). If I am off on the round< Dodger fans please feel free to correct me!
