S3F High-Heat Matchup: Yankees vs Mets (5/20, ESPN, 8 PM EST)

    vs.

For this game, we're going to be trying out something a bit new which is for any poster who contributes to the game thread in a quality way (I hate to put a number on it, so it's a bit more subjective) will get repped by however many mods I can get to do it (currently we're at three) so this would be a nice way possibly for some of you guys to lower your ERA is just by hanging out here, enjoying the game, and positively adding to the discussion.

ALSO, we're running an S3F Vegas Event for this game, so make sure to check that out as well here: http://www.strike3forums.com/forums/...-week-bet.html

As for this game, it should be an interesting matchup. Chien-Ming Wang is set to take the mound after his first five outings have shown a lack of consistency to say the least, so it will be interesting to see "which" pitcher we'll see on Sunday... the one who opened the season pretty poor (two 6 IP, 4 ER outings) or the one who bounced back with a very strong effort against the Mariners (8 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) only to get bombed by the always hitting Rangers (7 ER) to finally recover with a positive outing against the Chi-Sox (7 IP, 1 ER). Yankees fans should hope Wang can string together a consecutive quality outing for the first time this season given the kind of season young Mets starter John Maine has had. Maine has slowed down a bit recently, but still owns a 2.15 ERA in 50 innings pitched while posting strong strikeout numbers and keeping the hits to a limit. Wang has brought control to the table this year, while Maine has brought the punchouts so it should be a good one (and consequently, what one has for a strongsuit, it's what the other pitcher has had difficult in posting strong numbers with.)

I hope to see you guys there.

I'll be there, however unfortunate the results may be for my poor old Yankees.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

I just read that Tyler Clippard is expected to be called up and get the start versus start Wang on short rest. So Clippard could actually be the game starter instead.

I really hope we have a good group for tomorrow guys, the more the merrier for game threads. Anyone have predictions?

(By the way, I am sure the starter has been confirmed for the Yankees but I've had a hell of a day so I haven't been able to check.

I predict that the Yankees will salvage the last one and their bats will wake up and they will go on a minor tear and try to creep back into the race!

I'm gonna watch terrible Japanese horror movies instead of this game but here's hoping for a good discussion.

Ill probably on call for work considering the morning manager is basically by her self from 9-5.

    Mets will probably win 9-3.

I, for one am excited to see this one. My Reds suck right now, so I am excited to see two really good teams go head-to-head. This game will astonish me with great play. I will be highly dissapointed if they bring unusual bad baseball to this one.

I am tired of watching bad baseball and hopefully this game will cure my madness.

Prediction: Mets win 6-5. Reyes hits a game winning RBI double to take the lead in the ninth.

Who is this Clippard guy? I haven't heard much about him. Is he a new spect getting his first shot at the bigs tonight? Is he a good talent oversahdowed by Hughes?

Clippard sits mostly around 89-90 from what I am reading. I also see that he has a plus curveball and keeps hitters off balance with a real nice changeup. He lead his league is strikeouts in '05 and'06.

So this guy could be pretty dominant. Sounds like he has good stuff to work with even though he doesn't blow anyone away with blazing heat. I am looking forward to watch this guy pitch.

Clippard is rated their #2 pitching prospect behind Hughes, I think they project him as a good starter but he has obviously been overshadowed. K machine in the minors like you said.
