Round One (Players): Bob Gibson versus Manny Ramirez

Bob Gibson (1964, 1967, 1968) - He only had three postseason series, but he was the definition of dominant. In 9 World Series starts, he went 7-2 and averaged 9 innings per start, with 8 CG and 2 SHO. His 1.89 playoff ERA is a bit inflated by his 1964 appearance against the Yankees, where he had a 3 ERA over 27 innings. His WS against Boston in 1967 was likely his greatest, with 27 innings of dominant ball, a 3-0 record, 1.00 ERA, a win in the deciding Game 7, and a WHIP of .70. His team lost the next WS to the Tigers, but not after Gibson recorded 35 Ks in 27 innings and a 1.67 ERA. He even has two World Series homeruns.

    versus

Manny Ramirez (1995-1999, 2003-2005): The always interesting and crazy Manny Ramirez is, as everyone knows, a superb hitter. And that ability does not cease in the post-season. Over the course of 16 post-season series, he has 307 at-bats meaning he has a little over 350 PAs. His contact dwindles a bit in the post-season, but his OPS is nearly .850 and well over .900 in LCS’. His best series was likely the 1998 ALDS, where his Indians beat the Red Sox in four games, where he went 5-14 with 4 XBH, including two HR. He owns one World Series ring from the 2004 WS, where he also earned the WS MVP award for going 7-17 with a homerun and four RBI.

Got to vote for the dominance over the accumulation. Sorry Man-Ram.

No reason to be sorry. Bob Gibson was nearly as good as Koufax.
