That makes his case even better, the previous 2 pitchers in the past have been AL pitchers who all they do is pitch, which means they play every 4-5 days, unlike Ortiz who plays every single game, has had GW hits/HRs, and look at all the other AL teams name me one DH who has more HRs and RBI than Ortiz. Basically which is NONE, Ortiz is not your average DH, he's a leader. Usually you dont find leaders in DH in general.
A leader with another top 5 player hitting right behind him. As far as DH's go, Hafner is a better all around hitter than Ortiz.

Speaking of pitchers winning the MVP, we are badly overlooking someone for this award.
I don't know how you guys feel about pitchers winning the award, but Santana has been pitching so lights out, that i'm surprised he doesnt have like 10 no hitters already...the man is nymber 1 in wins, ERA, Ks, opponent BA, and has the lowest WHIP at .95. Sounds like he could win the MVP over all the candidates, especially since the team would be nothing without him.

Point is as far as DH's go, Hafner is a better hitter! That's all the point. And with the Twins, Chisox and even the Angels ahead of the Red Sox, their playoff chances are done with 20 games left. Giants didn't go to the playoffs in 1999.

Plus you have Arod with an MVP for a LAST PLACE team, so i dont see why Ortiz cant win it.
Side question: if DH's can't be considered for MVP, can they be considered for Hall of Fame? i.e. Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas, etc.
I can't speak for Mariners fans as to Edgar Martinez, but Frank Thomas was a first basemen during his prime years in the 1990s.
Because A-Rod put up unique numbers (Ortiz is possibly the top hitter this year, A-Rod was far and away the best that season) and played gold glove defense at shortstop. Not often do SSs put up the kind of numbers he did then.

Arod getting MVP was a tragedy. With or without him, they finished last. Its not who's the best but most valuable. Edgar was a nice hitter but in no way a HOFer.
