Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers

Josh Beckett from the Red Sox showed Tampa Bay what pitching is all about. Beckett struck out seven in six shutout innings for his fourth consecutive win. Allowing only four hits no runs and no errors for an almost perfect performance.

"He had no-hit stuff tonight. He really did. It was electric," Boston manager Terry Francona said. "They had some real strong, long at-bats ... and just kind of made Josh run out of gas."

David Ortiz snapped out of a slump with two hits and an RBI to lead Boston to a 4-1 victory over the Devil Rays. This Boston team with every passing game is looking more like the 2004 World Champions.

They are a very good pitching and hitting team. Opposing teams should not take them lightly.

What a game the Tigers had last week against the KC Royals with six runs at the bottom of the first. Three of these runs were single homers that allowed the Royals to take a big advantage over the Tigers. Although Detroit wasn’t ready to give up on that game scoring three runs at the top of the second inning.

The combined with weather, ballpark and the players allowed the hitters to have their day. At the top of the eighth the Tigers tied the game and KC didn’t do much at bottom of the eighth. Finally Detroit had their best inning scoring five runs in the ninth and taking the final lead 13-8 on a hitter’s kind of day.

"I did not think that game was over at 6-0, not the way that ball was flying," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "I'm real proud of them. We could have packed it in."

But they continue to play and won the game showing why they have the best record in the league and of course they’re planning to keep it.
