    April Contest: Round Three

Check the other topic for results, some I did in my head, some not, if you want verification, ask, but no tiebreakers were used. I am prone to mistakes, so ask if you are unsure. PM preferably. These should be the brackets for the next round though. The contest is upcoming and ALL CONTESTS WILL BE FOR GAMES ON APRIL 23, 2006. No pairings turned out where both people said yes for trivia, so there will be nothing like that this round.

This is a multiple-game prediction contest.

    Blackjack

    For instance, suppose it was
    1) Missionhockey21
    2) Redsrbetter
    Domain: Teams, Runs

Meaning, I want the players to choose the teams they believe will equal 21 runs, or get closest to it. They can pick 0 teams, 8 teams, 30 teams, whatever they want, but they want to get as close as they can to 21 runs. For instance

Mission: Reds, Red Sox, Mariners (9+3+5) = 17
Redsr: Reds, Red Sox, White Sox, Rangers = (9+3+1+5) = 18

    Reds: 9 runs
    Red Sox: 3 runs
    Mariners: 5 runs
    White Sox: 1 run
    Rangers: 5 runs

In that scenario, Redsrbetter would win, since he was closer to 21 without going over. If you have any questions, please ask.

There are no duplicative picks allowed.

THE TIEBREAKER FOR THIS ROUND IS A TRIVIA QUESTION OR MULTIPLE QUESTIONS, SINCE I WANT TO BE AN ASS. Sometime tommorow afternoon, look around 4:00 PM on this thread, I will post 1 question, the first person from each pairing to PM me the CORRECT (or if a numerical question, CLOSEST TO CORRECT) answer wins. Every day, I will edit a hint in this post so someone will hopefully, eventually, get it. Second tiebreaker is the first person to submit a complete pick set.

The tiebreaker will be applied if BOTH players go over, so it is important. Also, I don't want any of the BS where someone wins the TB, then makes extremely similar picks to the other person. I will use my discretion, if I feel that, I will ask the 2nd person to change their picks.

Also, if you are mean and post the answer on this thread, even if it's wrong, the other person automatically gets the tiebreaker, you get one attempt per day to guess correctly, new hints should go up around 4:00 PM EST daily until each person has answered correctly

    * = Correct TB Answer

    1) General (Yanks(7), Braves(3), Marlins (2), Rockies(3)) = 15
    2) Dry1313* (Cubs (7), Cardinals (3), Yankees (7), Phillies(4), Orioles(1)) = 22 = BUST
    Domain: Teams, Runs

    1) Dirtykash* (Greg Maddux (7), Clay Hensley (5.1), John Koronka(8), J.J. Putz (1), Gary Majewski(1), Ray King (0.1)) = BUST
    2) Element (Roy Oswalt(7), Felix Hernandez(7), Jose Contreras(8), Joe Nathan(1), Bobby Jenks(0)) = BUST
    Domain: Pitchers, Innings Pitched

    1) Providence A's* (Jorge Cantu(1), Ichiro Suzuki(2), Vernon Wells(1), Travis Hafner(0), Alex Rodriguez(0), Derek Jeter(3), Milton Bradley(1), Josh Willingham(0), David Ortiz(2), Grady Sizemore(1)) = 11

    6) Dam8610 (Jim Thome(0), Albert Pujols(0), Vladimir Guerrero(2), Jim Edmonds(1), Miguel Cabrera(0), Eric Chavez(1), Miguel Tejada(4), Chase Utley(0), Bengie Molina(0), Chris Shelton(0)) = 8
    Domain: Hitters, Hits

    1) Kingdom_of_Zito* (Tampa Bay (4), Kansas City(4), Arizona (4), Baltimore(4)) = 16 = Win Due to Tiebreaker
    2) Witlon (Colorado(5), Houston(4), Pittsburgh(4), Cincinnati (1), Florida(2)) = 16
    Domain: Teams, Pitchers Used

    Enjoy.

    Tiebreaker Question

Circular logic aside, Mr Mims, you have yet to provide a single credible reason why you are, in fact, hot.

How does innings pitched work if a pitcher goes, let's say 6.1 innings? Do you round up to 7 for the blackjack hand value?

DK: I will use fractions. So feasily, having a hand value of 20 1/3 is possible. I make up my own cards in this deck

KoZ: The first completed prediction is 2nd tiebreaker, so you can post, but the first prediction made gets precedent

Dang. Getting 21 1/3 innings pitched would totally suck.

and so I have to pick the hitters that I think will combine to reach or come close to 21 hits?

For example Manny Ramirez 0, David Ortiz 0, Jason Varitek 0, Eric Chavez 4, Frank Thomas 3, Milton Bradley 3, Bronson Arroyo 5, Dustin Mohr 0, Mark Kotsay 3, Nick Swisher 3 = 21

Therefore, I gave you no trivia, the tiebreaker is completely optional...but, it will help. It's not like it is imperative to win. Deal with it. :P

Seriously, I said I am not going to base a contest on trivia, and since I said that, IF BOTH PARTIES AGREE, I will give an alternate tiebreaker for your group, but I need posted confirmation of such. Likewise, if neither of you guys can answer the question and want a separate tiebreaker, I can do that. But be warned, it takes any TB power out of your hands
