It's kind of lame to say "I told you so" when the entire debate is based of the possibility of something happening.

no, you guys said he would be traded because that made more sense...I've said from the beginning that he wouldn't be traded. Why can't you guys just admit you were wrong? that's what's lame to me.

Grouping all Padre fans into one boat because one of them was a bit more insistant than others that it would happen, and then, in turn grouping them all into one boat again because another one refers to the "I told you so" as "lame" accusing the entire fanbase's representation on these forums as not "admitting they were wrong" is also lame.

Yeah, we said he could be traded, all with varying degrees of the chances of it happening, but I don't think any of us guaranteed it to happen. (pff, maybe) and coming back and saying "I told you so" to the entire fanbase when the majority of us were just saying it could happen and had valid reasons to back that up...even if Beane did later say he wouldn't do it for said reasoning.... is lame.

But if it makes you feel better, i'll put it like this.

Anyone who thought Zito would be traded, no matter what, because he is looming on free agency was wrong.

Anyone (such as myself) who thought there was a possibility of him being traded was not wrong, because I was (read: Not "we were") arguing that the chance existed. As it turned out, he stayed in Oakland.

I doubt this happens, though. The A's have a contendable team, so I doubt they'd give up on him.

It'd be good for the Dodgers, and bad for my Padres.

they do have some awesome talent in the minors, so it is plausible.

Here's the one thing that hasn't been brought up about Zito, and I'm surprised it hasn't. The only reason these rumors have been flying is because the A's know they're not going to re-sign him. They want to get something in return for Zito, whether it's prospects, a bat or a top reliever.

A little bit of errant info here (in regards to the A's "not getting anything in return") but all I read here is an explenation as to why the rumors exist. Nothing stating it WILL happen.

The more I see the A's, the less I believe Zito will get moved, especially with Harden and Loaiza on the DL right now. I think the A's will be in the race and it would be a mistake to move him just because you won't sign him during the offseason.

if the A's are in the race there's is no way they move Zito, bottom line.

All talk, at least from me, of the possibility of him being moved is under the premise of should they be out of the race by the trade deadline.

I, for one, doubt Zito ever wears a Padres uniform via trade this year.

That said, if Oakland's out of the race by the trade deadline there's a good chance Zito's traded.

And yes, i'm aware of the fact Oakland gets draft picks if he walks via free agency.

It's kinda hard to argue against something that's only a click away from going back to check the accuracy of.

And even with him, he possibly had errant information in regards to quotes Zito may or may not have made...but he still carried the mindset that those quuotes were made and was simply forwarding them as a rumor.

And, in regards to myself and my comments, even if I did say he "would be traded" you still can't say "I told you so" to me, considering the fact that all my remarks were made under the premise that the A's would be out of the playoff race by now.....which they're not.

I doubt he will, New York will throw more money his way, and since he hired Boras that's obviously what he's most concerned with.

However, San Diego does have a lot of money coming off the books, so there is a possibility that there usually isn't with them in the offseason that they sign him.

(Please bookmark this post, so as you don't go on to say "I told you so" 5 or 6 months from now accusing me of stating Zito WILL sign with San Diego.)

And considering FmrFresnan and padrefanforever are the only other padre fans to frequent these boards regularly around the time in question...and I have shown that FmrFresnan was also not saying he WILL be traded, it's only obvious that your issue is with one poster, not the entire fanbase's representation on these forums who were arguing it at the time.

In other words, arguing that something is a possibility isn't neccesarily stating that it will happen, only that it might.

Furthermore, all my arguments were based on the premise that the A's would be out of the playoff race for it to happen....and they are no out of the playoff race. So even if I said "will" you still can't call me wrong, because the scenrio I put forth for it to happen did not take place.
