Penny realizes how difficult it will be for the Dodgers to overtake the first-place Padres.

"It's possible. Somebody was telling me if they go 10-10, we have to go 16-4 just to tie," he said. "I don't know if they'll go 10-10."

The Dodgers are 10-5 against the Padres this season.

"It seems to me watching, we're a better team than the Padres are," Penny said. "We just don't play the other teams as well."

LA likely won't overtake the Padres unless the Padres go on a losing streak. The Giants seemed to have a shot at the division when they were in second place, but they lost ground.

Boy did we ever. Win six in a row then lose five of the next six. LA is not out of it yet. Til the Padres reach that magic number, anything can happen.
