Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that Jon Garland will earn a $3.5 million base salary with the Dodgers next season.
The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus, which will be paid in 2012. The contract is heavily incentive-based, as the 31-year-old right-hander would be paid $500,000 for logging 150 innings, another $500,000 for 160 innings, $525,000 for 170 innings, $1 million for 180 innings and $1 million for 190 innings. The contract also includes a 2012 club option worth $8 million. It can vest if he reaches 190 innings and avoids landing on the disabled list in September due to an arm injury. If Garland fails to reach the 190 inning benchmark, the Dodgers can buy out the option for $500,000. If Garland reaches all incentives -- including more innings benchmarks in 2012 -- he would make $16.525 million over the length of the contract.
