f*** Kemp and Martin in the f***ing ass!!!ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Russell Martin was tagged out at second base an instant before Reed Johnson would have crossed the plate with the Los Angeles Dodgers' tying run in the ninth inning, allowing the Los Angeles Angels to escape with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.
Moments after Matt Kemp was picked off second, the Dodgers lost their sixth straight game on their second baserunning blunder in a wacky ninth inning.
Pinch-hitter Jamey Carroll's two-out single off Angels closer Brian Fuentes should have scored pinch-runner Johnson easily from second, but left fielder Juan Rivera alertly threw back to second base to double up Martin, who had been on first.
Plate umpire Mike DiMuro immediately ruled Johnson hadn't reached home in time - it was clearly the correct call - setting off an abashed celebration for the Angels after their fifth consecutive win over the Dodgers in the Freeway Series.
Martin slammed his helmet to the ground after being called out. The Dodgers wasted multiple chances to score against Fuentes, who backed into his 12th save in 15 chances.
Kemp reached base on a throwing error and Ronnie Belliard singled to open the ninth, but Fuentes struck out Casey Blake and then picked Kemp off second base. Martin drew a two-out walk before Carroll came up, but the Dodgers catcher got caught rounding second base too far on Carroll's bloop single.
I'm still worried about my team's (lack of) offense and their reliance on Kevin Correia and Jon Garland.
Just because I don't run a curse filled thread of expletives about how much my team sucks that I update everytime somebody strikes out doesn't mean I think they're the second coming of the 1998 New York Yankees.
The Padres were supposed to lose 100 games this year. I expected them to perhaps overachieve and only lose 90.
