Dodgers Dodgers @ Rockies series 7/4-7/7

    Game 1

    vs.
    Dodgers (38-43) vs. Rockies (28-52)

Game Time: July 4, 2005 5:05 PM PST
    Coors Field

    STARTING PITCHERS

    Jeff Weaver (7-7 4.51) vs. Byung-Hyun Kim (2-7, 6.04)

Expect another high scoring game at Coors. The Dodgers need to take advantage of Kim, but they will have to get by with mostly AAA batters in their lineup. Weaver will probably get lit up again at Coors, so the AAA batters need to pound Kim and some more early.

Dodgers win 4-3 in 11 innings! How about Oscar Robles filling in for Cesar? Robles batted 5-for-6 and drove in tying run and the go-ahead run in 11th inning. The Dodgers will need more performances like that from Robles especially since the team placed Cesar on the DL today.

Also, J.D. will be out 2 months with a broken left wrist. Tough break for J.D. and the team but he could've missed the rest of the season had he needed surgery. Looks like the starting outfielders will be 3 Ja(y)sons: Werth, Repko, and Grabowski.

It'll be interesting to see how Odalis pitches coming back from the DL. But Coors Field is the worst place for him to make his first start. He doesn't pitch well in Coors and he got tagged for 7 earned runs in 5 innings in his last game at Colorado on April 23. LA faces the "Rockie Mountain Ace," as missionhockey calls Jeff Francis.

Well, as usual, LA lost 6-1 and got powned by another rookie Rockie pitcher. IIRC, Jason Jennings and Denny Stark pitched well in their first starts against LA. Jeff Francis pitched 7.1 innings with only one earned run. Odalis didn't pitch as badly as his last start at Coors but he still didn't have a quality start.

Nice, LA 9-4 bottom 8th. The Rockies just scored as I'm typing this. Happens too often when I'm replying the other team just scored a run.

A quality start for Penny. Chacon got tagged for 6 runs. Chacon is a nice cure all for one game.

Dodgers lost the 4th game 8-5. Another freak injury:

Helton made it 8-5 with a shot off Franquelis Osoria in a sequence that encapsulated just how snakebitten the injury-riddled Dodgers have been this season.

With the left-handed Helton coming up, manager Jim Tracy came out to get left-hander Kelly Wunsch from the bullpen. But as Wunsch threw his last warmup pitch, he sprained his right ankle and had to be carted into the clubhouse.

"From an injury standpoint, that's probably about the tip of the iceberg," Tracy said.

Just this week, the Dodgers have placed J.D. Drew (wrist) and Cesar Izturis (hamstring) on the disabled list and lost Jeff Kent to a hamstring injury that has left him "day-to-day." Wunsch's injury, which will be re-evaluated Friday, simply added to the misery and may have been the strangest of all.

"That's a first for me," Tracy said.

With Wunsch unavailable, Osoria, a right-hander, came in on short notice and delivered the home-run pitch, making a loser out of Giovanni Carrara (6-3).
