    Russell Martin is a goner

Taking into account of his two year "slump" in hitting, J. Mart is already overpaid at $5 million. There's no way he deserves a raise over that in his second year of arbitration, even though he likely will command it per custom. If he isn't traded during the season, I bet he will be traded in the offseason or worse comes to worst, non-tendered, even though Carlos Santana isn't walking through that door to replace him. So does that leave us with Dioner Navarro after the Rays non-tender him? That would be ironic since Dioner has sucked just as much over the last two years.

Well, Russ' season ending right hip injury makes the decision more obvious.

Good thing Lucas May is raking at AAA. Oh...nevermind. We're screwed.

Dodgers probably weren't going to tender him next year anyway.

Martin still has value but unlike where many saw his career going and potential production, that isn't where it landed. He'll make a fine starting catcher for some other organization (shitty OPS or not, he can get on base at a decent clip) but he'll be a disappointment in Dodger blue after his 2007 season.

A disappointing player for the Dodgers leaves and catches on to another team and proceeds to make his former team pay? You don't say!

I'm sure Schmidt would make a fine pitcher for the Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League should the Mark Prior signing not work out for them.

The #Dodgers have non-tendered Russell Martin, George Sherrill and Trent Oeltjen. Quotes from Colletti to follow shortly #mlb
Martin asked for $5 million plus $1 million in incentives, according to the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez.

I guess we are back to Brent Mayne/Jason Phillips redux.

This was a no brainer for the Dodgers. It appears the Dodgers are close to signing Barajas.

    rotowire:
Dioner Navarro and the Dodgers have reportedly agreed on a contract, the Dodgers' official site reports.
It's safe to say any feelings of regret that surfaced when Navarro made the 2008 All Star Game over the Dodgers' decision in 2006 to go with Martin as their starting catcher instead of Navarro are long gone.

Brent Mayne throws a knuckler, he could be more useful than Charlie Haeger.
