Dodgers Xavier Paul to the DL; an "NHL bust" called up

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers are expected to make a roster move Friday according to published reports, promoting Triple-A outfielder Jamie Hoffman to replace Xavier Paul. Paul is expected to be placed on the disabled list with a skin infection on his left leg.

Hoffman likely will arrive in time for Friday night's game with the Angels.

Paul, 24, was called up May 7 to replace the suspended Manny Ramirez. He was 3-for-7 as a pinch-hitter and 3-for-14 overall with a home run and one RBI.

Hoffman, 24, was recently promoted from Double-A Chattanooga (where he hit .307) to Triple-A Albuquerque (where he was hitting .257) when Jason Repko was injured. He was an undrafted free agent signed in 2004 after being an eighth-round draft pick of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes in 2003.

Hoffman is a right-handed hitter and was a midseason All-Star last year at Double-A Jacksonville.
I love how hockeysfuture.com labeled Hoffman an "NHL bust" even though he voluntarily quit hockey right after he was drafted in order to pursue a baseball career.

You waste a draft pick on a guy who doesn't want to play. That's a bust.

Then that makes Tom Glavine one of the most famous NHL busts.

Yup, and John Elway was a baseball bust. Doesn't mean they aren't great, it just means they were a bust in another sport.

Jamie Hoffman's dad has already made national news.

Word spread quickly when outfielder Jamie Hoffman was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque to the Dodgers on Friday, and it had little to do with him.

Hoffman’s dad, Rich Hoffman, is the sheriff of Brown County, Minn., and his departure for Los Angeles was national news. Rich Hoffman is presiding over the high-profile case involving a cancer-stricken teen, Daniel Hauser, who is refusing medical treatment. The teen and his mom have fled the state and defied a court order. When Rich Hoffman left the state it was big news.

It appears Sheriff Hoffman has arrived in Los Angeles just in time to arrest both the Dodgers' and Angels' bullpens for arson.

It was their boards that helped me get over here. Someone made a post talking about how good this site was, and than I ventured over.
