LOS ANGELES -- Dodger left-hander Hong-Chih Kuo today was named the 2008 Setup Man of the Year, as voted on by fans on MLB.com. The award is part of the website's This Year in Baseball Awards. The Taiwan native received 30.3 percent of the vote, ahead of Tampa Bay's Grant Balfour (19.2 percent), the Cubs' Carlos Marmol (17.6 percent), and the Angels' Scot Shields (7.5 percent).

Suck it, DK, and all the other haters.

Umm, does anyone else realize that this is based on fan voting? Fan voting means NOTHING.

Umm, All Stars get voted in on fan voting. So fan voting does count SOMETHING. Besides, it's not exactly ballot stuffing by homers. If it were, ****ing Aaron Heilman might have won it just because he plays for New York.

Not true. Heilman was HATED by his own fans, so why in god's name would they vote for him. Plus, as we've argued before, the All Star Balloting is in itself messed up. So, fan voting, while it may be given meaning, in actuality is the worst possible way to decide an award winner. Even if the award happens to be as meaningless as this one.

I don't see how the voting here is messed up. The leading 3 candidates are all deserving of the award. Even if you believe the award is meaningless, I care because Kuo is getting some respect.

Okay, that's fine. I'm not sure that anyone doubted Kuo's skill....but I mean, lets be fair, the award isn't exactly a big deal.

So what if he started 3 games? Manu Ginobili still received his 6th Man of the Year Award even though he wasn't actually a bench player.
