    Dodgers interested in Mark Loretta

The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly are interested in trading for Mark Loretta to fill in for third baseman Nomar Garciaparra, who won't be ready for opening day. Loretta started at third base Friday for the Houston Astros.

The Dodgers are also not sure if second baseman Jeff Kent will be ready for opening day.

Astros general manager Ed Wade has a policy of not discussing potential trades, but he expects Loretta to be with the Astros on opening day and possibly start in place of injured second baseman Kaz Matsui.
I wouldn't mind them getting Loretta in exchange for next to nothing. At worst it means that Ramon Martinez gets his walking papers.

The only use for Burroughs is to have him serenade Barry Bonds in drag on Mark "Seacrest" Sweeney's annual spoof of American Idol.
