David Wells has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, how desperate can you get? But you never know though maybe will come in and give the Dodgers the push that they need to make the post season.
Left-hander David Wells, released earlier this month by the San Diego Padres, reached a tentative contract agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.

Wells, 44, is expected to join Los Angeles on Sunday and start that night's game against the Mets. The Dodgers will be his ninth team in a 21-year major league career.

"David's excited to have an opportunity to continue his career with a team that has such a storied history," Wells' agent, Gregg Clifton, told The Associated Press. "He's excited to help any way he can to get the Dodgers back to the playoffs."

Wells was 5-8 with a 5.54 ERA and opponents had a .322 average against him when his hometown Padres designated him for assignment on Aug. 10. Talent evaluators who saw Wells pitch in July and August believe he was having a difficult time maintaining his delivery into the middle innings.

At the time, Padres general manager Kevin Towers said called Wells, a 235-game winner, one of the best left-handers ever.

"He's had a pretty remarkable career," Towers said. "He's been a great teammate. It's going to be tough not to have his presence in the clubhouse. I'll miss that."

The Dodgers have been devastated by injuries to their pitching staff, including to offseason addition Jason Schmidt and left-hander Randy Wolf, and have managed to stay close in the NL wild-card race.
