    Dodgers Pierre Finalizes Deal

    Pierre, Dodgers Finalize Deal
    Yahoo.com - 11/22 - 8:29 PM EST
With power in short supply on the free agency front, the Los Angeles Dodgers went for speed.

Juan Pierre and the Dodgers finalized a $44 million, five-year contract Wednesday, giving the club another dangerous threat at the top of the lineup to go with Rafael Furcal.
Good signing, I have always felt like Juan is a top tier player, despite a sub-par 2006 season...

definately ... u can never have too much speed... power bats are needed but if u have guys that can get on and score regularly like pierre and furcal.. it should be alright for now... pierre gets hits and is aggressive with stealing bases.. plus he rarely gets injured, plays good defense, is a plus within the clubhouse, and hes consistent ... him and furcal should be a lethal 1,2 combo ... if we get manny its over .. he'll have liek 300000 rbis

Well, at least it's better than Gary Matthews Jr.'s contract.

I agree, the Angels WAY overpayed for Matthews Jr. He produced in a contract year, he's never really been that great of a player, he just flourished at the right time. I hope that doesn't come back to bite them in the ass.

I agree with this entire thread, except for the parts about Pierre getting hits, getting on base, playing good defense, or being a top-tier player.

    He is, however, very fast.

I think the Angels were blinded by the 1 good year that Matthews had. He's very injury prone and he hit a lot of HR's at 'The Launching Pad at Arlington'.

Here's some stats on Matthews prior to last season.....

His highest BA was .276 in 2002
    He's never hit more than 11 HR's in a season prior to 2005 & 2006
    He's never had more than 38 RBI's prior to '05 & '06
    His career numbers @ Angel Stadium .239 BA, 1 HR, 10 RBI's

I concur with Saber, plus I would like to add that my local Little League CF has a stronger arm.
