Under Black, Los Angeles starters led the AL with a 3.75 ERA, the staff topped the league in strikeouts and ranked third in total ERA this past season.

No other terms of Black's agreement were released by the club, which won the AL West this year for the second consecutive season.

Black, 48, has handled the Angels' pitchers for the past six seasons. They logged 1,126 strikeouts this year, with a 3.68 overall ERA that was the team's best since a 3.28 mark in 1989. The 443 walks allowed were the fewest in team history.

The Angels' bullpen also posted 54 saves this year to tie for the league lead.

Black pitched in the major leagues for 15 years, spending time with Seattle (1981), Kansas City (1982-88), Cleveland (1988-90, 95), Toronto (1990) and San Francisco (1991-94).
