Angels Wells to have thumb surgery

Vernon Wells will need surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and will be sidelined for at least 8-10 weeks.
He'll undergo the procedure Tuesday, and it sounds like he will not be back until the second half. The Angels are probably better off without Wells in the lineup, anyway, but it obviously hurts their depth. Peter Bourjos is due for an uptick in playing time.
Wells had a lousy .704 OPS so he won't be missed that badly. Bobby Abreu would look pretty good right now for the Halos.

So basically if the Angels didn't owe Vernon Wells like a billion dollars through 2014, Wells would have been the one who got cut instead of Abreu, yes? Yes?
