Angels Pujols deal paying for itself...kind of

Signing of Albert Pujols bumps up revenues for Los Angels Angels - ESPN Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Angels haven't made a dent in recouping the $240 million they committed to Albert Pujols in December, but they're already seeing some returns on their investment.

Sales of Pujols jerseys are the third-most brisk in the majors after Derek Jeter and Cliff Lee models, according to sales rankings released by Major League Baseball Thursday.

In addition, the Angels say they have sold more than 5,000 additional season tickets since they signed Pujols and pitcher C.J. Wilson in December and they expect to sell around 25,000 season tickets this season. Angel Stadium holds 45,050.

The team sold more than 30,000 individual game tickets on the first day of sales -- March 3 -- and sold out 10 home games during spring training.

Pujols, who played his first 11 seasons in St. Louis, batted .383 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs in spring training.

The Angels being their 2012 season with a home game against the Kansas City Royals Friday night.
Cliff Lee? Really? Good to see the Pujols deal stirring up more fans and bringing more money to the game.

If you've ever listened to that DB Samson from Miami, he was positive that paying Pujols a huge contract was worth it based on the income the team would generate because of the signing.

I guess he was right, and now I feel dirty.

5,000 additional season tickets sold for the next 10 years still don't add up to $240 million.
