Angels Weaver's first loss of the year

Jered Weaver lost his arbitration hearing against the Angels and will earn $7.37 million this season.
It's hard to say someone loses when they will make $7.37 million, but there you go. Weaver made a pretty compelling case for himself after posting a 3.01 ERA across 34 starts last season, including an AL-leading 233 strikeouts over 224 1/3 innings, but that apparently wasn't even to be awarded his desired salary of $8.8 million. The 28-year-old right-hander remains under team control through the 2012 season.
Angels saved themselves $1.4 million but I really want to know what the Angels reasoning was behind Weaver not getting his money. I would have loved to be in that hearing. Weaver had an amazing year and one that kind of went unnoticed. He finished 5th in the CY voting but should have finished higher.

I don't really think there is any real reasoning, teams take the chance since it appears especially in recent years that once it actually goes to arbitration they usually side with the team.

Weaver has my Cy Young vote easily and we're not even in May. Hard to see him not winning it. This is legit stuff we're witnessing. Crazy that he lost his arbitration case over the winter. PAY THAT MAN HIS MONEY!
