An MRI on Saturday confirmed that Scot Shields has been pitching with patellar tendinitis in his left knee.
That could explain the 7.71 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 8/12 K/BB ratio. The Angels are willing to continue trusting him for now, but a stint on the disabled list seems imminent. "Shieldsy says once he gets loose, there’s no effects of that," manager Mike Scioscia said. "We’re obviously going to monitor it."
Why wait? He isn't doing the Angels any favors with his terrible middle relief so why keep him up? Why wait til it gets worse? Shields should be put on the DL as soon as Lackey or Santana come back.
