Rumor The return of Lima Time?

    Angels scour independent leagues
    April 25th, 2009, 8:02 pm by MARK SAXON, OCREGISTER.COM

Could it be Lima Time in Anaheim this summer?

Though the Angels have shown only tepid interest in the three free-agent pitchers waiting idly for offers, Manager Mike Scioscia indicated the team might consider signing a pitcher from an independent league to address the organization’s lack of depth.

Among those pitching in independent leagues are former major-leaguers Jose Lima (left), 36, with the Long Beach Armada, and lefty John Halama, 37, with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Neither has thrown a major-league pitch since 2006.

The Angels might have company as they scour independent leagues.

“I guarantee you there are at least 30 people at every one of those games,” Scioscia said. “Every team is sending scouts.”

With Ortega and Matt Palmer forced into the Angels’ rotation, the organization is thin high in the minor leagues.

“We’ve gone as deep as we can right now,” Scioscia said.

Lima had one of the worst seasons ever in 2005, was totally crushed in his limited outings with the Mets in 2007, and was so bad in Korea that he was released. If he can comeback from that, not only would he literally being doing the impossible but it'll be one hell of a show for the rest of us too.

Because Lackey and Santana are right around the corner. That's why That and they play in a division with the M's, A's and Rangers.

Santana is far from being ready to pitch from what I hear. Escobar even further.

I heard a mid-May return for Santana as of this past weekend. Escobar is expected back in late June/early July.

I'll take a bet on that. I say he doesn't start in the big leagues until at least June.

HAHA I am just going off what the reports are saying, don't really care but do know the Angels will be fine. Santana is expected to start minor league stints this week.

Escobar pitched a minor league rehab start last night. Supposedly his stuff was decent given the long layoff.
