Angels relief pitchers surrender 7 runs in the 8th inning

They blew a 5 run lead in the process, and lost 11-9 yesterday. Good God, their bullpen is ho-oooor-rible. Even worse than the Dodgers'.

I missed the comeback last night, but watched tonight's game. Pretty soon LAAAAAAA will be putting want ads for relief pitchers on craigslist if their guys keep getting hurt.

Oh, and one other thing. They might want to stop pitching to Kubel. He's 8-10 so far this series.

This bullpen is a running joke. Blowing a 9-4 lead in the last two innings, really? Brian Fuentes' ERA is now 7.88.

Guess Fuentes is no K-Rod. It's bad enough that his delivery is about as faggy as it gets. It's like he tries to pinpoint where he wants the ball to go instead of actually pitching.

When you rob the Colorado Rockies to get a closer, you pretty much exhausted every reasonable option beforehand. That signing was a joke, and unfortunately it's on us. Fuentes relies on control to get outs, and that isn't a good trait in a closer. Ideally a closer has incredible juice, so a tired hitter has to commit early and by the time he sees the ball is out of the strike zone, he has already begun to swing. Fuentes, on the other hand, gets relatively few swings on pitches out of the strike zone. His pitches are slower and the hitters have longer to decide to lay off the pitch. This leads to a lot of deep counts and more chances for a mistake.

I was against the Fuentes signing when it was done, and nothing I've seen so far has changed my mind. I understand the economics of not re-signing K-Rod but cripes, couldn't we have found a closer somewhere other than Colorado?
