Rivera resigns with the Angels

Angels signed outfielder Juan Rivera to a three-year, $12.75 million contract.

A reasonable salary, but a three-year commitment is somewhat surprising for a player who's totaled just 299 at-bats over the past two seasons and has never topped 450 at-bats. With Garret Anderson departing Rivera figures to play every day between the outfield and designated hitter, and the 30-year-old career .284/.331/.468 hitter is capable of smacking 20-plus homers if he can stay healthy.

Good signing here by the Angels. If Rivera can stay healthy, he could have a few nice .840+ OPS or so seasons I think. At the price, it's not a bad risk.

Great price. If Ibanez gets 3 years 10 million per, and Rivera get 3 years 4.25 million per, does that mean the Mets can take a guy like Abreu but only pay him 2-3 years and 7-8 million per?

Who is going to pay Abreu more than $7 million?? Every single team that wants his services. The man has six straight 100 RBI seasons. Ibanez just got $10 mill ion per year as you pointed out. Abreu is a better player than Ibanez.

Not really. Abreu has nice stats, but according to everyone I've asked who's been a fan of his, he's embarrassing to watch play in the outfield(one person said it looked like he was being chased by a bee all the time), and that he's not the same offensive threat he used to be. I mean, he's supposedly asking for 3 years, 25 mil. He's just old and not as good as he used to be.

I'll repeat, Abreu is better than Ibanez. Ibanez is awful in the field and older than Abreu. He doesn't hit for the same power but still steals bases and gets on base. Abreu might have lost it in the field but it is still better than Ibanez. I like Ibanez and think he is going to do well in Philly but he is not better than Abreu and Abreu will get $10 million+. Abreu is younger, faster and was paid $17 million last year.

Ibanez has more RBI's than anyone in baseball over the last 3 years. Ibanez has more power. Both are terrible in the field. No one even wants Abreu. Only 3 teams have been linked to him.

Abreu has six straight 100 RBI seasons, they hit for the same power, he's younger and can still run. The Cubs, Rays and Angels have been linked to him. Cubs and Rays aren't exactly broke. Its not like Ibanez had that many more teams looking at him.

Ibanez was courted by the Cubs, Mets, Phillies, Mariners, Angels, Braves, Nationals, and more. Abreu has the Cubs, Rays, and maybe the Mets. I haven't heard anything about the Angels being interested in Abreu.

Add the White Sox to the Abreu talk. I don't count the Mariners, Braves and Nationals as courting Ibanez. M's knew he wasn't coming back, Braves and Nationals were no real suitors for him. So the White Sox, Angels, Cubs, Mets and Rays for Abreu now. Happy? Point is when you say "No one even wants Abreu", you're wrong.

The White Sox have the inside track on free agent outfielder Bobby Abreu, according to the New York Daily News.
The Chi Sox would likely want to move Jermaine Dye first and have been in talks with the Reds to do just that. Abreu, 34, batted .296/.371/.471 last season with 20 home runs and 100 RBI. He also stole 22 bases. It could take a three-year deal to sign him.

The NY Daily News thinks that. They are the same age.

Yeah, if the White Sox move Dye, they'd be frontrunners for Abreu. But it doesn't look like they're gonna get rid of Dye any time soon.
