Angels Krod, Anderson and Garland Are Goners

According to the Los Angeles Times, "the Angels will not meet Francisco Rodriguez's desires for a five-year, $75-million deal and the record-setting closer is expected to leave as a free agent."
The list of teams that reportedly won't be in the mix for Rodriguez keeps growing, but we'll see what happens once he's actually up for bid. Given that Francisco Cordero got $11.5 million per season over four years last winter, Rodriguez getting $15 million per season over five years doesn't seem far fetched.

The Los Angeles Times reports that "there is a good chance veteran outfielder Garret Anderson has played his last game as an Angel."
Anderson has spent his entire 15-season career with the Angels and is the franchise's all-time leader in games, runs, RBI, hits, doubles and total bases. Unfortunately, he's 37 years old, posted a below-average OPS in three of the past four seasons and went 3-for-19 in the ALDS loss to Boston.

According to the Los Angeles Times, it's "doubtful" that impending free agent Jon Garland will re-sign with the Angels.
Garland went 14-8 with a 4.90 ERA after being acquired for Orlando Cabrera during the offseason and the newspaper speculates that he'll be let go "as owner Arte Moreno sheds payroll to make a possible run at free-agent left-hander CC Sabathia."
I don't see too many teams giving him that $15 million per season even after the great season he just had. $13 million would be as far as I would go and for only three years with an option. If he does well, he can only get a bigger deal.

Anderson had a good career and was a big part of the Angels' championship run in 2002 but it is time for the Angels to move on. I can see him going to another team but I see him retiring. He has made his money and has his ring. What else does this guy need?

I can see a team like the Cards being very interested in Garland. Dave Duncan would have a lot of fun with him and he would have fun in Cardinal Country. He's good for 200 IP and posts good enough ERAs for a backend rotation guy.

I think he might sign back with the CHW, especially since how bad Garcia and Vasquez pitched down the stretch, I would not be surprised. Also the fact he's going back to a place where he's familiar with and won a ring, and he stays in the same league(doubt that really is a factor)

Remember that Garland himself sucked down the stretch. An ERA close to 6 in the second half is not good.

Wow, I didn't realize that, but do you think that had more to do with the Angels clinching early just the fact Garland did not try much and saving his arm for the playoffs? Or Garland was not good this year? Or a combination of both?

Of all the teams without a solid closer, I can think of only the Mets who would be crazy enough to overbid every other team for Frod.

Scoiscia screwed his team when he insisted on Garrett Anderson as his 2-hole hitter for the playoffs.

Well when you have collapsed in September two striaght years, and especially this year the loss of Wagner hurt big time, if Wagner was healthy, Mets would have won there division, so I do see the Mets paying him 15m

Anyway, the Angels are screwed if Jose Arredondo's two pitch assortment can't record outs in the 9th inning.

I'd take K-Rod, but I wouldn't give him 15 mil for 5 years. No one gives closers THAT MUCH...
