Santana blanks White Sox for first win
Rookie throws five-hitter in a stellar performance
By Mark Thoma / MLB.com
ANAHEIM -- Ervin Santana shut out the winningest team in baseball Monday night, pitching the Angels to a 4-0 win over the White Sox at Angel Stadium.
Santana (1-0) earned his first Major League win by allowing only five hits and one walk in a complete game, while striking out seven. Reaching 95 mph on his fastball and mixing in a low-80s changeup, Santana kept the Sox off-balance all night.
Jon Garland (8-1), the winningest pitcher in the American League, took his first loss in nine starts this year. He allowed 11 hits and three runs in seven innings, walking one and striking out four.
The Angels scored a pair of two-out runs in the second, as Dallas McPherson walked, Orlando Cabrera singled and Adam Kennedy drove a two-run double into the gap. They added a run in the sixth when Steve Finley doubled, took third on a sacrifice and scored on Bengie Molina's single. Molina also drove a solo homer to center off Luis Vizcaino in the eighth.
The White Sox did not score for the first time this season.

Didn't watch the game, but I heard Santana was filthy. Shut down an offense that plays smart ball, and the best team in baseball, and beat out the winningest pitcher in the league. Impressive.
