Mariners at the plate: Shortstop Rey Ordonez, a long shot to make the team who hasn't appeared in the Major Leagues in more than two years, hit a three-run homer. Jose Guillen homered against his former team to a chorus of boos from the stands. Top prospect Adam Jones also drove in three.

Angels on the mound: Ervin Santana, fighting a stiff neck, had his scoreless string of five innings come to an end as he allowed two runs on five hits in three innings of work, walking two and striking out one. Jose Arredondo struck out the side in his one inning. Justin Speier pitched a scoreless frame.

Mariners on the mound: Miguel Batista threw three innings, allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout. Arthur Rhodes threw a scoreless inning as he tries to solidify a late-inning setup job.

Cactus League records: Angels, 7-4; Mariners, 2-8.

Up next: The Angels will play split-squad games Sunday. Mike Scioscia will take half the team to Surprise, Ariz., to face off with Texas, while bench coach Ron Roenicke will manage the other half of the squad at Tempe Diablo Stadium against Oakland. Two pitchers battling for rotation jobs will start for the Halos. Dustin Moseley pitches against the Rangers while Joe Saunders takes the hill against the Athletics. Both games will start at 1:05 p.m. PT.
