D-BACKS 10, ANGELS 7
at Tucson, Ariz.
Thursday, March 8

Angels at the plate: Howie Kendrick hit his first homer of the spring when he sent a Doug Davis changeup over the wall in center in the first inning. Kendrick also drove in a run in the third. Maicer Izturis smacked a triple over the head of center fielder Eric Byrnes to score Reggie Willits.

D-backs at the plate: Robby Hammock, who is competing for the final spot on the roster, hit a three-run, opposite-field homer in the fifth inning. The blast keyed a seven-run inning. Hammock also singled and scored in the third. Shortstop Stephen Drew added an RBI double in the inning.

Angels on the mound: Starter John Lackey was impressive in his three innings of work. The right-hander fanned five and did not walk a batter. He allowed just two hits and one unearned run. Things didn't go as well for Chris Resop, who gave up six runs on five hits.

D-backs on the mound: Davis' start was cut short when he was hit in the left forearm with a sharp grounder off the bat of Willits to lead off the third. The lefty had to leave the game but is expected to make his next start. Casey Daigle worked an impressive sixth inning.

Cactus League records: Angels 5-3; D-backs 5-4.

Up next: The Angels will play a day-night, split-squad game on Friday. They will play host to the Padres at 12:05 p.m. PT with Kelvim Escobar starting. Nick Adenhart will start the night game against the Royals in Surprise, Ariz., which starts at 6:05 p.m.
