Angels at the plate: Switch-hitting outfielder Tommy Murphy, having an impressive spring in his attempt to make the club, parked a two-run homer in the fifth off left-hander Tom Martin. Ben Johnson knocked a two-run triple off lefty prospect Josh Newman in the Angels' four-run seventh. Shortstop Erick Aybar doubled and scored.

Rockies at the plate: Outfield hopeful Jeff Salazar knocked his first home run of the spring, a two-run homer off Jose Arrendondo in the eighth inning and added an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to make it a one-run game. Center fielder Willy Taveras, designated hitter Steve Finley, in the lineup because Todd Helton was scratched with right knee inflammation (it is not considered serious), and left fielder Matt Holliday all knocked doubles. Finley lined into a third-inning triple play.

Angels on the mound: Starting pitcher Hector Carrasco gave up one hit and a walk and struck out two in his lone inning. Dustin Moseley gave up a run, walked three and gave up two hits. Phil Seibel gave up four hits, struck out two and yielded two runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Rockies on the mound: Right-hander Byung-Hyun Kim, trying to hold off competition for his rotation spot, concentrated on his fastball while giving up three hits and a run in two innings. He fanned one. Right-hander Josh Fogg, also trying to hold his rotation spot, struck out one while pitching two perfect innings and worked on his curveball. Non-roster righty Matt Herges, competing for a bullpen job, threw a perfect top of the ninth without the ball leaving the infield.

Cactus League records: Angels 3-0, Rockies 2-1

Up next: The Rockies and right-hander Aaron Cook will face the Diamondbacks and right-hander Dustin Nippert at Tucson Electric Park on Sunday night. Righty Taylor Buchholz, another candidate for Colorado's rotation, also will pitch. ... The Angels will send right-hander Kelvim Escobar to the mound to face the Brewers and lefty Chris Capuano at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
