Rangers after Mike Sweeney/ Royals ask foe Mench

Major league sources said the Rangers have had extended talks recently with the Royals about Mike Sweeney, and have called the Blue Jays to ask about outfielder Vernon Wells.
The Sweeney deal is not getting done because the Royals want Kevin Mench.

The Royals better get quality back for Sweeney if they do trade him. I hate to see him go but if we get a guy like Mench back I'd love to see Mike play for a contender, he deserves it.

I'm glad the Royals won't simply deal him for nothing, but asking for Mench is a pretty high request since he has broken out for the Rangers. I hope Mike gets to play for a contender sometime soon, he's a great guy and he has toughed it out through the Royals dismal stretch. Of course, I'd like to see Matt Stairs get on a contender too soon...>_<
