    Royals Sir Sidney

The Royals want to see if veteran right-hander Sidney Ponson has anything left after signing him Tuesday to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league camp. Ponson, 32, arrives after two solid outings for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. "We saw him as the best available guy based on our scouts' assessment," general manager Dayton Moore said. "Our scouts saw him in the WBC and were very aggressive in their recommendation that we need to bring him in here so we could evaluate him ourselves."
Why not? If Ponson makes the team, it will be his 7th team to play for. Ponson will fight Horacio Ramirez and Luke Hochevar for the last spot in the rotation.

In other news, Jimmy Gobble was released today.

He was a flop for the Twins, but the Royals could use all the help they can get.

He did look pretty good in the WBC. If he can fit into the clubhouse, he could help the team a lot.

As to Jimmy Gobble being released, this is a shame. The kid had enough talent to make it. He might need a change of scenery to get it back. Hopefully, someone will pick this kid up and give him a chance to do his job.

I didn't mean it that way, but you have a point.

We'll see how Ponson does. Even if he doesn't make the team he can pitch in AAA and come up later when the Royals need him.

I hadn't heard about Gobble. He pitched well his rookie year and has been up and down, mostly down since. Maybe he'll rebound elsewhere.
