Royals better be getting more than just Castillo in this deal. Guillen was the team leader in HRs and RBI and the Royals didn't finish in last place for the first time in four years. Guillen also hit 42 doubles last year. His value is a lot higher than that of Castillo. Royals are better off keeping Guillen and signing Grudz to a one year deal.According to the New York Post, the Royals and Mets discussed swapping Jose Guillen and Luis Castillo in July and could revisit talks this winter.
Both Dayton Moore and Omar Minaya would be looking to undo obvious mistakes made a year ago. Guillen is owed $24 million over the next two years, while Castillo is set to make $18 million through 2011. A swap would make some sense, given the needs of both teams, but the Mets, at least, may figure they're better off targeting a real upgrade in the outfield.
