    Royals Maroth Released

    Royals released LHP Mike Maroth.

After posting a 6.89 ERA in the majors last season, Maroth signed a minor league deal with the Royals and allowed 12 runs over 7 2/3 innings at Triple-A.
I don't see any other team taking a chance on him. He has been awful pretty much his whole career and don't see him magically getting better. Royals shouldn't be wasting roster spots on him anyway.

He had a pretty good stretch with the Tigers a few years back, but not much was expected of him there. The team around him was not very good.
I wish him the best in whatever he does from now on. He is a good young guy.

I think he could still have a shot at being a decent pitcher, if he gets put in the right situation. He always had pretty good stuff. If I were a team, I might take a chance on him, maybe a minor league deal?

    I wouldn't, he sucks.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Look at the Yankees roster. Worst case scenario, use him as a human shield to protect the rest of your players.

They have Johnny Damon for that purpose.

But I mean, the guy has a career ERA of just over 5. Yes, that's a bit high, but he's been playing on awful teams, and he's been in the AL. If an NL team took a chance and gave him a minor league deal, it could pan out. I'm not saying I'd offer him a contract, but I would give him a tryout, and maybe a MLC.

Mike Maroth would be my choice for this roster...after Darrell Rasner, Kei Igawa, Jeff Karstens, Scott Patterson, Chase Wright v2.0, and a couple other guys pitch first.

    How about Carl Pavano?

Oh, nevermind, someone would spit on him and he'd break his back..

The Cardinals took a chance on him last year, and it didn't work out so well. That should have been the perfect situation for a pitcher like Mike Maroth too. The Cardinals' pitching coach Dave Duncan has a a great reputation for being able to help pitchers that have struggled everywhere else. There are so many examples, and Kyle Lohse is probably the latest, but far from the biggest. Usually, if he can't fix them, they can't be fixed.

The Yankees would be idiots to sign him. They should just fill their needs from the minor league system. Maroth is no better then any of them anyway. Actually he is most likely worse.

How about Rick Peterson? He has fixed guys like Oliver Perez and even to a degree Tom Glavine needed fixing

Oliver isn't quite fixed. Even after a solid '07, he still was as dominant as he was early on with the pirates. Now he;'s back to walking the world.
