Royals designated shortstop Angel Berroa for assignment.
Berroa went 1-for-11 with four strikeouts and no walks in three weeks in the majors. He's going on waivers, but that he's guaranteed another $7 million through the end of 2008 ensures that he won't be claimed.

Royals recalled outfielder Joey Gathright from Triple-A Omaha.
A month after it should have happened. Gathright was hitting .328/.450/.392 with 21 steals in 186 at-bats for Omaha. He should take over Shane Costa's at-bats, with an expanded role possible if more injuries strike. His ability to steal bases figures to give him a little value in AL-only leagues.

Berroa is a lost cause at this point. Noen of the Royals OFers are hitting worth a damn so this is a definite good thing. Gathright will provide some new energy inside that clubhouse and especially on the base paths. It could help them get to be the second worst team in baseball.

hey they could have kept damon, byrd, suppan, the list goes on, and on, and on.

I give Sweeney credit though. Could have left several times and has remained loyal. don't see that too often anymore.
