    Astros Astros budging on Pence

The Astros are showing a willingness to trade Hunter Pence, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (on Twitter). Rival executives expect GM Ed Wade to trade Pence, Olney reports.

The Braves, who may be close to acquiring a right-handed bat, have enough prospects to pry Pence away from Houston. However, Atlanta has interest in Jonny Gomes and others, including Carlos Beltran. The Pirates have also been eying Pence, who will cost a lot in terms of prospects.

Pence, 28, is hitting .315/.356/.478 with 11 home runs. The two-time All-Star is under team control through 2013, but he won't be cheap. He earns $6.9MM this year, so a $10MM payday is within reach next year, with another raise likely in 2013.
If true, Pence could overtake Beltran as the best available bat only because he is under control through 2013. Beltran would still be better in the short term but for a team like the Braves, he could be a great fit and the Braves definitely have the arms to get a deal like that done. Mike Minor would be a good start to get a deal done. Phillies and Red Sox would also love to have a guy like Pence. I have always thought the Astros would trade Pence in the offseason but with these reports, it could come sooner.

Rumors swirling that Dominic Brown was offered but Wade wants more than just that. Now it's switched to a deal surrounding around Vance Worley.

Pirates won't over pay. I wouldn't mind if Atlanta gave up one of their arms in a deal. I'd love to have Pence in the lineup. He's perfect to fit in the organization.

I agree and I think the Braves have the best shot at getting him.

Jon Heyman is reporting the Astros will not move Pence this summer. I can see them moving him in the offseason as it would make more sense for the Astros. They can get a new GM in there and start fresh.

    Re: Astros budging on Pence

According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, interest is "exploding" for Astros outfielder Hunter Pence.
The heat has turned up significantly since Carlos Beltran accepted a trade on Wednesday to the Giants. Pence, 28, has hit .307/.354/.467 in 98 games this season for Houston and would fit nicely with a number of contending clubs. The Phillies, Braves, Red Sox and Reds are known to be in the running currently.
This could make for an interesting deadline move if it happens. Pence is now the best player out there and could do every team good beyond this season.

Back and forth on Pence. I'll believe it when I see it either way, haha!
