The Houston Chronicle reports that LaTroy Hawkins and the Astros have agreed to a one-year contract.
The deal is expected to be announced Friday and keeps Hawkins in Houston for around $3.75 million after he posted a 0.43 ERA in 21 innings with the Astros following a midseason trade. He'll come back down to earth, but should be worth the one-year investment as a setup man.
We all laughed when the Astros traded for Hawkins and Wolf but apparently Ed Wade knew what he was doing, trying them out for the '09 season. Not only that but they made one hell of a comeback in the second half this past season. Hawkins on a one year deal for a team like the Astros is not a bad investment especially after the taste of success he found in Houston.
