    Brocail Agrees To Terms

KRIV-TV in Houston is reporting that the Astros and Doug Brocail have agreed to terms.
Ed Wade loves his veteran middle relievers and Brocail has about as much experience as anyone out there, Mike Timlin and Roberto Hernandez excepted. It's probably a one-year deal worth a couple of million.
The Astros lost Lidge and gained Villerreal and Brocail. So far I'm not impressed but they are looking at guys like Riske and Percival but so far this bullpen still needs a lot of work.

    Re: Brocail Agrees To Terms

Astros signed RHP Doug Brocail, who had been with the Padres, to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with a club option for 2009.
The Padres will get a supplemental first-round pick for losing the 40-year-old right-hander. Brocail had a 3.05 ERA last season, and he was actually at 1.79 on the road, so Petco didn't play much of a role in his success. On the other hand, he struck out just 43 in 76 2/3 innings and it wsa the first time he had posted an ERA under 4.00 since 1999 (he missed 2001-03 with arm woes). He's no lock to help the Astros in middle relief.
At least they didn't pay him that much or give him more than a one year deal.

Let's just say that a lot of N.L. hitters don't miss the days of having to face Lidge, Dotel, and Wagner altogether during the late innings.

wonder if the Dodgers can get more booze for Rafael Furcal and Esteban Loaiza as compensation for losing Roberto Hernandez.
