Astros still needing a big bat...

    Talking the talk

Astros general manager Tim Purpura said Tuesday he has talked to other teams about possibly acquiring another bat for the lineup but hasn't gotten any positive responses.
"You inquire about a lot of players," he said. "Any clubs that are in contention or near contention, there's not a lot of motivation to do anything right now."

If this team does get another decent bat, they are going to be scary. But does anyone see them being able to get someone good enough without losing pitching depth?

A Dunn for Oswalt deal would look pretty sweet.

The Astros would have to give up pitching, since their farm doesn't go deeper than Hunter Pence.

I thought they were already pretty much over payroll and wouldn't really be able to add an salary?

I bet Backe goes on the block soon. Anyone think he could net a decent bat?

Backe could net someone like Jacque Jones or something, but not a big hitter like Carlos Lee or even Adam Dunn.

Brandon Backe threw a four-inning simulated game at U.S. Cellular Field on Sunday, one final tuneup before he begins a rehab assigment with Triple-A Round Rock.
