Renteria to Braves; Marte to Red Sox

The Braves and Red Sox have agreed on a deal that would ship shortstop Edgar Renteria to Atlanta in exchange for Braves third-base prospect Andy Marte, ESPN's Peter Gammons has learned.

I really dont like this move at all. They gave Rent one season, come one. He has shown he was a solid fielder in the past, yet he had one bad year and he's gone. Now, who is our SS?

The Braves got a guy who can knock in some runs and I expecthis defense to come back to normal in a lower market like Atlanta. I do want to see how the moeny will be worked out.

    *backflips*

The Sox pocket 6 million bucks per to pay for Damon/Whoever and get a guy who kept nearly a .900 OPS in AA and AAA and was the #1 prospect in baseball (BA) before the 2005 season.

    Edgar's post-season batting line: .246 .328 .319

Anyway, Edgar still should be good for Atlanta, maybe a slightly above average overall hitter (don't expect '03).

So we have 3 third basemen, no SS, no 1B, and were paying 11 mil to the Braves on top of this. Marte better be freaking great in the majors.

I'm willing to believe Youkilis could (and would) play first base, with Lowell at 3rd and Marte in AAA to start off. That just leaves SS, which can be solved a number of ways. I'd be willing to take the hit and leave an automatic Cora out in the 9 hole for the season and then groom Pedroia for SS.

Nomar!!! JT Snow is available now.

I don't think Nomar would ever come back after how the media and some fans treated him. I wouldn't boo him, but I thought he was incredibly overrated. I'd love to see him in the infield though at his new, low price.

I was kidding about Nomar but was serious about Snow. If you are going to have a guy like Olerud, why not Snow for a very low price to teach Youk a thing a two.

  14. #14
Depends on how low the price. Snow wouldn't be a bad guy simply to teach Youkilis how to play first base if that's where they'll keep him for a few years and platoon if the situation is right, although I don't think he's starter-caliber right now.

That's why you have Snow. Snow is a $1 million guy. He made $2 mil last year and was not offered arbitration.
