    Reds Casey to Pirates

The Pirates are close to acquiring first baseman Sean Casey from the Reds for left-hander Dave Williams, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports.
If this goes down, then it's safe to assume the reports of the Red Sox offering Bronson Arroyo and/or Kevin Youkilis were false. As we figured anyway. Casey is making $8.5 million next year, so Williams, a bottom-of-the-rotation lefty, is about what he's worth.

If this is true then Dan O'Brien needs fired immediately before this deal goes through. Casey would be more valuable to us in the lineup that Williams (even at the cost of 8.5 million).

Just Dave Williams? That's not enough even if you are shedding payroll.

Actually, it is. There are a good 20 1B I'd rather have than Casey.

It's kinda like, uh, why period?
I'm sure they could get more for Casey, and... with Wilson and Eldred, pirates don't really need a bat at first.

If the Reds want to pay 3/4 of his salary, sure.

    First base power?

Brad Eldred 2005 Stats: 12 HR in 190 AB, albeit as a rookie, and striking out way too much. That's only going to get better.

Sean Casey 2005 Stats: 9 HR in 529 AB. Has eclipsed 20 HR's 3 times in his career.

Where is the first base power upgrade here?
