I draw the line with things the pitcher has more control over. Things such as Ks, WHIP, BBs, and to some extent ERA (even though he needs help for that one as well)

sure 300 Wins is a automatic ticket into the HOF, that's because the W stat is so glamorized, above all else in baseball. Bert Blyleven is a perfect example of my point. The guy was an OUTSTANDING pitcher, one of the best in the game. But is he in the HOF? No, why? Because he has <300 wins due to playing on shitty teams his whole career.

Greg Maddux is a surfire bet to the HOF (as he should be) But do you think he would be considered as surefire had he played for the Expos, Royals, Rockies, and Devil Rays his whole career, and thus never got to 300 wins?

Kerry Wood wins 11 games a season on avg., he'll give you 177 innings on avg, will get you 200k's, and posts a 3.66 career ERA.......overall he's very solid, and would be a great #3 guy. He would be welcome on just about all rotations. The mistake is made when he's talked about being a #1 or #2 guy .......he's never won more than 14 games, and that total would skyrocket if he weren't matched up against true aces and #2 arms........IMO.........he had one brilliant game.........not a brilliant career however. Drop him to the #3 and watch him thrive
