Reds Puig, Kemp, Wood, and Farmer traded to the Reds

The Dodgers had to send $7M to the Reds and take back Homer Bailey's $28M contract, but they will DFA him, so we get nobody but we're going to be paying everybody to play for somebody else next year. So much for looking forward to Puig's contract year or at least leveraging that in a trade for Kluber or somebody useful.

Asking for a non-Dodger fan opinion, does anybody here still think of Friedman as highly as the guy who could do no wrong in Tampa Bay and that you would be a fool to gamble against him in his trades?

I love it, it needs to be the first with other moves for the Reds. You also got a couple prospects from the deal.

I doubt you put much weight in the opinions of media pundits but many of them are praising the Dodgers for this move and are speculating they're adding money to afford Harper with.

If the Dodgers snag Harper due to this, it makes sense. Of course the Harper contract is going to be insane, but he is a generational talent.

The Reds are going into their 150th year, which of course they will be promoting, so this move instantly makes them better. Wood isn't the frontline starter they still need to get, but definitely will improve the ranks. However I do think one of Puig or Kemp is moved. That, or they will use Winker as a trade chip due to his years of control left.

If Puig sticks, I feel like him and Votto will bring out the best and worst in each other. Should be fun.

Well, the only way to move Kemp's salary is to take on equal cash in return or to throw in useful players for free like the Dodgers just did. And being reunited with Turner Ward means Puig sticks around, at least until the trade deadline if the Reds end up selling.

And...the Reds have released Kemp. He's a free agent for the first time in his career.

Should have happened when there was no potential buyers when the Reds first got him. Now we wasted a handful of at bats on a guy who was never going to be with the team after this season regardless of how he performed.

I don't follow the Reds like you do, but I'm guessing that they were still easing Winker into a full-time role and they probably weren't counting on Dietrich having the year he's having.

They have a glut of corner outfielders and Kemp at this point should be a part time DH and no "true" centerfielder. Then they exacerbate things by playing service time games with our best prospect since... Barry Larkin or Joey Votto... who is learning his 3rd or 4th position in the last 2 years, and he gets hurt in a minor league spring training field. Senzel regardless should have broke camp with the big club and your depth chart would have been:

RF: Puig / Schelber (who is better suited as 4th of)
CF: Senzel / Schelber/ Winker (who surprisingly isn't that bad in CF compared to the rest)/ Emergency Lorenzen
    LF: Winker/ Schelber/ Deitrich
