I worry he's too qualified for this mess even.

Sadly, there's nothing fine about it.

Let's not pretend that we both don't know who you're referring to.

I was figuring they'd just promote Levine, since he's a schmo anyway. What'd you have in mind?

Well, that contract's pretty crappy. I think we could have gotten him for less. I presume, at least I would have, that if they didn't want Jeter they'd have said signing/re-signing. I think the moreover point is that the owners keep going above Cash's head, and that's never a good sign.

in terms of derek jeter, who cares what his contract looks like. hes earned every dime hes gotten, whether the contract looks bad to the newspaper writers or not. ill sit at home and bitch about arods contract, or yell that cano doesnt deserve 10 years... if the yankees had ever cheaped on jeter, wed have all taken a conniption. and rightfully so.
and yea, they thought about cheaping on him twice... but once, george came through, and the 2nd time, the idiot children did the right thing for a guy who mightve been past his prime... like they did for posada, rivera [who proved he wasnt past his prime] and bernie

I wouldn't have a conniption, but I'm also not very loyal when it comes to sports players. George kinda fucked things once, he had a deal with Jeter during arb lined up, but decided to pull it, then Jeter got a bigger one, and then we got to where we were.
Re: Soriano comes home to NY
well id have taken a conniption. if anyone deserves your loyalty, its derek jeter. do you live in new york? i know your teams outside of baseball are non-new york, so im merely curious.
Re: Soriano comes home to NY
I don't think teams should be as loyal to the players as many fans argue the should when that loyalty almost never comes from the other side (loyalty is a two way street).
That being said, there are rare occasions where I think it's deserved and Jeter fits that case.

I live near SF/Oakland. My parents were from NY. I generally don't pick teams on geography. Got the Raiders from Dad who grew up watching the AFL and loved the team, the Yanks from Mom who grew up watching them, and the Penguins on my own from watching hockey as a kid and they were always on.
